I believe in development and not in settlement
This is a translation of a direct quote from a dialogue I had with a manager of mine – which I was “reporting to” and who had “hire and fire rights”.
He treated me as equal on all levels. As a human being. As a colleague.
In Danish the quote was: “Jeg tror på udvikling og ikke på afvikling”.
The context was a dialogue related to where I fit in or not in both the shorter and longer term – where I could contribute the most – and grow at the same time. His concern was clearly on my well-being.
My manager made it crystal clear – that no matter my choice – he would support me: Option 1 – Stay in the team and current context I was in with slight modifications due to general organizational changes outside his span of control. Option 2 – Find another role to play somewhere else in the company (with his support). Option 3 – Find something else outside the company with no urgent time pressure – so within approximately 6 months – again with his support and recommendations from him towards a potential new employer.
I find this belief and mindset as well as clear communication very compelling #leadership #management behaviour. A precondition for #flow.
